My Favorite Gut Health Supplements

Do you find yourself overwhelmed with all of the information out there on supplements or the newest trends to support your gut health?

I wanted to help eliminate some of that confusion and share with you my top five gut healing and nourishing nutrients.

L-Glutamine:

L-Glutamine is the preferential fuel source for the cells of the gut lining. It can help reduce intestinal inflammation and intestinal permeability (leaky gut) and is suitable for all types of digestive issues. You can get l-glutamine through foods like bone broth and wild caught salmon, however for therapeutic effects you'll want to supplement.

Zinc Carnosine:

This form of zinc specifically has a positive influence on the entire microbiome and promotes a health balance of bacteria. It is beneficial for anyone suffering from gastric discomfort such as heartburn and GERD as well as helps maintain the integrity of the gastric lining. Foods rich in zinc are pumpkin seeds, oyster and organ meats.

Essential Fatty Acids:

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) help down regulate the inflammatory process in the body by suppressing the pro-inflammatory pathways. this is crucial for anyone suffering from IBD as inflammation is one of the main contributing factors. foods rich in EFAs are wild salmon, flax seeds and walnuts.

Probiotics:

These are live bacteria that live in the digestive tract and help restore balance of the "good" and "bad" bacteria and also help alleviate digestive discomfort. Examples of probiotic rich foods are kefir, kimchi and sauerkraut. I do want to mention that not all probiotics are created equal. You will want to ensure it is human strain and can survive the stomach acid. My favorite is the HMF line by Genestra.

Curcumin:

Curcumin is the active component of turmeric and it helps to fight inflammation at the cellular level. It also inhibits pro-inflammatory molecules and can provide the same effectiveness as some anti-inflammatory drugs without the harmful side effects. Likewise with l-glutamine, in order to get therapeutic dosages you will need to utilize a supplement (Curcumin Ultra by AOR is my favorite).

You can find the above mentioned supplements through my online dispensary via full script - linked below.

Cheers to a happy, healthy gut.

Rachel
